ABOUT US

@pitymeinn

Welcome to The Pityme Inn
A country pub by the sea, run by a passionate team and fuelled by Cornwall.

Our Story

A mile from Rock beach, The Pityme Inn has travelled from farmstead to tearoom to restaurant and—since the 1970s—a cherished village pub. In 2018, Jason and Chris Black stepped in as a close-knit leadership team intent on making the inn a true home-from-home for locals and travellers. They refreshed the building, championed Cornish produce and assembled a talented crew led on site by General Manager Jesse.

The hard work paid off when the British Institute of Innkeeping named us UK Licensee of the Year 2021—a pinch-us moment that still makes the team grin. Today Jason, Chris, Jesse and Head Chef Charlie work side-by-side pouring pints, plating fresh dishes and ensuring every guest leaves with a smile—and a little slice of Cornish cheer.

What Makes Us Tick

  • Warm Cornish hospitality – dogs by the fire, kids in the garden, locals and travellers swapping stories at the bar.

  • Proper local produce – Porthilly mussels from across the estuary, beef from Bodmin Moor, spirits from Tarquin’s still.

  • Good times, whatever the weather – heated dining pods, Sky Sports on rainy afternoons, soft-serve cones for beach days.

  • Community – parents-and-baby coffee mornings, loyalty cards for locals, ready meals and pantry staples for holiday homes and busy families.

Eat & Drink

Helmed by Head Chef Charlie, our daily menu follows the seasons:

  • Pub classics – fish & chips, sausage-and-mash, legendary Scotch egg

  • Seafood celebrations – Classic Bouillabaisse, Porthilly mussels

  • Plant-powered plates – banana-blossom “fish,” aubergine coconut curry, full vegan menu

  • Sweet things – sticky-toffee sundae, vegan Snickers bar, soft-serve with “make-it-naughty” toppings

  • Behind the bar – St Austell ales, Cornish ciders, craft cocktails, low- and no-alcohol pours

Need a feast at home? Pick up an Eat Inn ready meal or deli essentials from the freezer beside the bar.

A Name to Remember

Legend says a fishing skipper ignored a brewing storm; the ship was lost and villagers chided his widow. She replied, “Pity me, I’ve lost my husband too.” Whether folklore or fact, the line stuck—so did the name—and we keep that story alive with a wink of Cornish humour.

Come On In

Whether you’re cycling the Camel Trail, catching waves at Polzeath, or simply craving a pint where the welcome is as warm as the log fire—The Pityme Inn is ready for you.

Open daily from 9 am. Book a table, pod or room online, or just wander in and say hello.
